Report of electric mobility patterns

This document analyses the need for services and infrastructure for electric mobility for the tourism industry in three Alpine areas: South Tyrol (IT), Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (IT), and Canton Ticino (CH).

To collect the data and information analysed, three workshops were organised with local stakeholders and two questionnaires were distributed, one to residents and one to tourists. Finally, some interviews were conducted with businesses in the tourist industry.

The document contains some useful recommendations for promoting a pathway towards defining a sustainable electric mobility strategy in the border area under study.

This document analyses the need for services and infrastructure for electric mobility for the tourism industry in three Alpine areas: South Tyrol (IT), Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (IT), and Canton Ticino (CH). The activities performed and contained in this report relate to the analysis of the status quo, future visions, and primary challenges regarding electric mobility in the three study areas. To collect the data and information analysed, three workshops were organised with local stakeholders and two questionnaires were distributed, one to residents and one to tourists. Finally, some interviews were conducted with businesses in the tourism industry. The document will conclude with some useful recommendations for promoting a pathway towards defining a sustainable electric mobility strategy in the border area under study.

In the tourism sector, however, promoting electric car rental activities will be secondary, at least as long as using private cars remains the preference. The tourists who responded to the questionnaire clearly prefer electric bike rentals. On the other hand, more charging points can be promoted at accommodation facilities to increase and improve services for customers who will continue to use their private cars to travel to tourist destinations, if they are more inclined to purchase electric vehicles in the future.
